Salma Abdelaziz is a senior associate and a member of Meysan’s Regulatory & Govt Affairs and International Disputes team. She maintains a broad international commercial practice, having handled cases under various institutional rules, including the ICC, ICSID, UNCITRAL and CRCICA. In addition to her dispute resolution practice, Salma has extensive experience in TMT practice, having advised leading technology companies, sports federations and media outlets. Salma is the firm’s contact person with regard to data privacy and compliance matters. She frequently advises clients on the newly promulgated Egyptian Personal Data Protection Law, offers advice on advisory compliance matters, and on regulatory matters relating to licenses of subsea internet cables infrastructure projects. Her work was an extension of the activities of TMT beyond the traditional regulatory sphere.

  • Advised international companies on the installation and licensing of subsea cables in Egypt and obtaining permission as well as consultation with the Egyptian National Telecommunication Regulatory Authority (“NTRA”) and TELECOM EGYPT.
  • Advised a global telecommunications company on Egyptian laws and regulations in relation to erecting and licensing telecom towers on behalf of its telecom customers; the supply of telecommunications equipment, and disputes relating to the same.
  • Successfully defended a European sports marketing company before the Competition Commission with respect to its alleged breach of Competition Regulations following its execution of a multi-million-dollar sports broadcasting contract with a European-based international sports association.
  • Represented media companies before the Egyptian Competition Authority in the context of investigations for breaches of the civil and penal provisions of the Egyptian Competition Act.
  • Advised international shipping and pharmaceutical companies on the abuse of dominant position and cartel provisions of Egyptian competition legislation.
  • Successfully defended the Confederation of African Football (CAF) in precedent-setting investigations before the Competition Appeals Board; and in an ICC Emergency Arbitration under Swiss law concerning the alleged unlawful termination of a one-billion-dollar sports broadcasting and marketing contract.
  • Advised a global telecommunications company on Egyptian laws and regulations in relation to erecting and licensing telecom towers on behalf of its telecom customers; the supply of telecommunications equipment, and disputes relating to the supply of telecom equipment.
  • Advised the International Air Transport Association (IATA) in relation to the structure of its EasyPay Application 2.0, a “pay as you go” e-wallet solution for agents to issue tickets via the BSP to ensure its compliance with the Central Bank of Egypt regulations and aiming to provide a funding account and technological platform for the different airlines.
